Too much time indoors during the summer can make you a little bit crazy.
We had to get out, and we had a plan:
1. Go to bed early
2. Set the alarm
3. Get to the park before most people go to work
With sleep still in our eyes, we loaded up on sunscreen and bottles of water and were gone in a flash.
Could it be?
Two playgrounds and a small water park were completely empty, just waiting for us to explore, play, and enjoy...
Where to first?
Swings?
No go.
Something about whizzing through the air as Momma stood still was not fun.
Next up, the slide.
WEEEEEE!???
Denied.
Maybe it was too early for all of this excitement?
I began to think that this bright idea might not be so bright after all.
We decided to give up on early mornings and the great outdoors.
But, just as Claire was headed for the gate...
She found it.
Something she could have found in a parking lot or on any street corner.
Not too big, not too small...
It was just right.
She found her shadow.
She began to notice that every move she made, he made.
She waved, he waved right back:
She bowed, and he did the same:
Shuffle, Ball, Change.
Repeat:
Wow. This was AWESOME.
So awesome, in fact, that Claire wanted to shout from the mountain tops about it.
So, she did:
The sun was getting braver, letting us know that it was time to head home.
Claire thought it would be a great idea to bring her new friend along.
So she tried:
What was wrong with this guy, anyway??
PB&J sandwiches (along with an air conditioned house) were calling our names, which made it easy to wave goodbye and head on our way.
And as soon as Claire turned around to go,
he was gone.
...leaving her with a story to share, and joy in her heart:
Please excuse our recent absence. Life happens, and we were enjoying it.
